PIKE CREEK MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
CHURCH HISTORY

Pike Creek Missionary Baptist church was established sometime during 1889 on the New River Road near Ashton Cross Roads. Mr. Bake McClendon gave the church a plot of land near a creek that was named Pike Creek and thus the church adopted the name Pike Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

Our first (1st) pastor was Rev. Roach Robinson and he was pastor for many, many years until his health failed him. Two deacons were ordained under his pastor ship: Deacons Bonnie Bannerman & Abe Armstrong. Many, many people came to Christ and joined the Pike Creek Family.

Our second (2nd) pastor was Rev. Will Johnson. Rev. Johnson was pastor for 20 years. During his pastor ship, a vestibule was added onto each side of the church. The church family was growing. Deacons Oscar Moore & Ed Hand were ordained. The Deacons worked hard and prayed many prayers for the unsaved to come to Christ. The first (1st)church clerk was Mrs. Lottie Johnson.

Our third (3rd) pastor was Rev. Abe Dixon. He was pastor for a short while.

Our fourth (4th) pastor was Rev. Jackson; he too was pastor for a short while.

Our fifth (5TH) pastor was Rev. K. S. Davis. The church was growing in spirit and in grace, it was then that we built in the pool for Baptism. Rev. Davis was pastor until his health failed and he was unable to travel the long distance to Pike Creek. During Rev. Davis' pastor ship, Deacon William Pickett was ordained. The trustees were Brothers Dan Armstrong and Willie Jordan. It was during this time that Mr. Mclendon told the Church Family that could build on the land, however; we would never own the land. Deacon Oscar Moore contacted Mr. & Mrs. Walter Lane about some property on hwy 117 north of Ashton, the Twin Oaks Community. Deacon Moore presented the reasonable price to the congregation, a vote was taken and it was decided that Pike Creek would have a new home. We moved in to our new home on July 6, 1954. Upon this rock I will build my church; and all the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (St. Matthew 16:18The second (2nd) church clerk was Sis. Mary Susan Everett-Wilson and Bro. Freeman Wilson, Sr was appointed as trustee.

Our sixth (6th) pastor was Rev. Williamson, the first (1st) pastor in the new church.

During this pastor ship, Deacon Wesley Pickett, and Deacon Nathan Jordan were ordained. Rev. Williamson was pastor for a short while. The third (3rd) church clerk was appointed, Sis. Emma Hand-Jordan.

Our seventh (7th) pastor was Rev. Willie Frink. The church family was continually growing. Rev. Frink served 19 years. Deacons Benjamin Everett, James Boney and Eddie Hand were ordained. After serving many years as a Deacon, Dea. Benjamin Everett was called into the Ministry. His initial sermon was preached at Pike Creek. During Rev. Frink's pastor ship, we added on the kitchen and dining room to the church & purchased a bus. The first (1st) and current financial secretary; Sis. Ernestine Moore Obee was appointed.

Our eighth (8th) pastor was Rev. Willard A. Rich; installed 1981. During this pastor ship, Deacon Cleveland Bannerman was ordained. The trustees were: Brothers: James Mack Everett, Melvin Hand, Jessie McKnight, Perkins Johnson. The (4th) church clerk appointed was Sis. Melendar Armstrong Andrews.

Our ninth (9th) pastor was Rev. Willie O. Randolph, Jr., installed 2nd Sunday, April 1990; last day of service was 2nd Sunday June 9, 2002. During Rev. Randolph's pastor ship, we ordained two (2) deacons, Dea. Gerry Armstrong May 29, 1995, Dea. Michael Armstrong, May 27 2001. In Feb. 1997, Bro. Dan Allen Smith, Jr., a Junior Deacon, preached his initial Sermon. Minister Dan was 11 years old at that time. During the pastor ship of Rev. Randolph, we accomplished many things. The young people stepped up to be trained and worked diligently. Appointed trustees during this time were: Brothers: Adrian Pickett, Dan A. Smith, Sr, Sylvester Murray, Ray Pickett, Thurman Johnson, and Joseph Wallace and our first female trustee, Sis. Ella Pickett West. Our fifth (5th) church clerk was appointed: Sis. Harriett Rodgers Pridgen; correspondent secretary appointed: Sis. Joanne Smith White, current assistant financial secretaries are Sisters: Rosetta Bordeaux and Joanne White.  Sis. Harriett Pridgen accepted the Church Clerk position after Sis. Melendar Andrews      announced that due to caring for her mother, she could not devote the time required to the position.
